D-DAY

They came at dawn – over the sea.
To land on the shores – of normandy.
To free the land – from the oppression at hand.

Their landing ships – lowered their ramps.
They stormed out – onto bloody sand.
But the defenders – mowed them down to the man.

Chorus: Soldiers – of the free world.
Fighting – for freedom and glory.
Soldiers of the good cause.
They gave their lives for a better world.

Still they pushed on – with will to succeed.
To carry the day – all they would need
Was to establish – a beachhead on normandy.

The defenders were few – but their bunkers were hard.
So they struck – at the concrete heart.
Victory at last – the culling was at an end.

At the end of the day – many thousands were dead.
Friend or foe – the sand was red.
But it was done – the end of the war in sight.
